The Perfect Storm
The Perfect Storm
When opioid addiction and COVID-19 diverge or meet head-on this has created the perfect storm. Both catastrophic events have caused unprecedented challenges to the healthcare system impacting the care that is vital to our patient/client population. COVID-19 has impacted every aspect of our lives from uncertainty of our health as well as our families, unemployment, financial concerns, panic, grief, stress, and parenting during these trying times. The opioid epidemic has caused a rise in overdoses, relapses, and challenges in being able to identify how to obtain appropriate levels of care. Consumers are reluctant about seeking SUD assistance for their challenges due to increased fear and anxiety of contracting COVID-19
As we attempt to navigate through what is our new normal, The Mercer Council OORP is committed in continuing to provide consumers with assistance during these challenging times by remotely meeting consumers where they are in providing professional and personalized peer recovery support, linkages to appropriate levels of care and supplemental services, along with case management for a minimum of 8 weeks up to 6 months.
The OORP Team provides a unique multidisciplinary approach to provide clients the support and assistance they are seeking, especially during the Novel Corona Virus pandemic. We work in collaboration with the Mercer County area hospitals and community providers in addressing any barriers associated to appropriately link clients with the next stage in their recovery process.
The Mercer Council OORP serves as an essential stakeholder in this collaborative multidisciplinary approach to appropriately assist and support consumers as they navigate through this storm of uncertainty.
