Dear Mercer Council Family, Friends and Community –
At the close of the year 2020, a year quite like no other, we reflect on the hardships, the uncertainty, the pain and loss, social and physical isolation, among many other challenges the year has thrown at us. This year has been an emotional roller coaster, at times very difficult and uncomfortable to bear. We’ve seen our colleagues, loved ones and community members significantly impacted, at the hands of the pandemic, as a result of racial inequities or as a result of substance related challenges, some of which have resulted in overdose deaths. We know that our community, especially those experiencing active substance use and even those in recovery, have been hit particularly hard by the current crisis within a crisis. During this unpredictable and tragic year, we have seen first hand just how important our agency is to the community and just how critical the services we provide are.
On the bright side, over the past year, we've had many reasons to feel uplifted, see the silver lining and celebrate the positives and successes that are happening all around us, as we've embarked on a journey of many firsts, including working remotely, holding meetings, recovery support groups and educational trainings by Zoom, providing counseling sessions via telehealth, increasing our social media and online presence and finding creative ways to collaborate and engage with one another and our community. This year has sparked growth, problem solving and the learning of many new things that we can carry with us when it is safe to gather together again, hopefully sometime soon, that will remove more barriers and increase access to our services, so that fewer people are left behind. This year was an opportunity to pause, take a look at our services and find ways to make them better and more informed, flexible, responsive, inclusive, accomodating, and understanding than they've ever been. While it shouldn't have taken a pandemic, we are here and seizing this opportunity to learn and grow.
Here at Mercer Council, we want to celebrate our programs, services and their successes, by sharing with you what we've been able to accomplish this year. Please view our annual report inphographic to see all that we've been able to accomplish this year, despite the challenges.
Thank you to our funders, our community partners, supporters and community members for navigating a difficult year with us. If we can get through this, we are certain that we will overcome, persevere and make each year better than the last.
