June 30, 2020- Last day of Pride- Netflix Watch Party
For the last day of Pride month at 2 PM, we are hosting a Netflix watch party featuring the documentary The Life and Death of Marsha P. Johnson. Marsha P. Johnson was a Black trans woman that was an icon of the LGBTQ+ movement and was considered a heroine of the Stonewall Riots.
Many are unaware that the LGBTQ+ community has an alarmingly high rate of substance use challenges. Many face adverse experiences that lead to trauma and substance use.
The Prevention Coalition of Mercer County wanted to host this Netflix watch party so that we can discuss these different intersectionalities and better inform our community on the challenges facing our LGBTQ+ members.
A Netflix Watch Party allows a group to watch a Netflix movie at the same time, and also allows a chatbox on the side to discuss important points. If there is a discussion that becomes involved, we can pause the movie and continue when needed. If you are interested in participating we will send recent LGBTQ+ ATOD data and a brief data sheet on Adverse Childhood Experiences, known as ACEs, that are traumas that can lead to conditions later on. We want you to be familiar with these, as the LGBTQ+ face stresses and trauma in different ways.
